Relocating to the Mississippi Gulf Coast
Sixty-two miles of shoreline between New Orleans and Mobile, three coastal counties, and a dozen towns that each feel a little different. Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Expect Realty helps people move here every month, from Keesler Air Force Base orders to retirees trading snow for the Mississippi Sound.
Our office is in D'Iberville, in the middle of the Coast. Most of our agents were born and raised here, which matters when you are choosing between Ocean Springs and Long Beach from eight hundred miles away. Tell us where you are coming from and when, and we will build a short list of neighborhoods, set up video tours, and connect you with the lenders, inspectors and movers we trust.
Start your relocation planSearch homesWhat brings people to the Mississippi Gulf Coast?
Work, water and the cost of a house. The Coast is home to Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport, Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Stennis Space Center near Bay St. Louis, a dozen casino resorts, and the hospitals and ports that support them. Housing costs run well below most coastal markets in the United States, and there is no shortage of water: the Mississippi Sound, the Back Bay of Biloxi, the Bay of St. Louis, and the rivers and bayous that feed them.
Military and federal
Keesler AFB, the Seabee base, the Coast Guard, Stennis Space Center and the VA Gulf Coast Health Care System. We work with PCS timelines and VA financing every week.
Retirement
Mississippi does not tax most retirement income, including Social Security, pensions and qualified retirement account withdrawals. Add mild winters, a walkable downtown in Ocean Springs or Bay St. Louis, and Gulf fishing from the back yard.
Remote work and families
An hour to New Orleans, 75 minutes to Mobile, and a regional airport in Gulfport. Newer construction in D'Iberville and north Gulfport, established neighborhoods in Long Beach and Pass Christian, acreage in Vancleave and Saucier.

- Pass Christian and Long Beach: quieter beachfront, live oaks, the University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus.
- Gulfport: the largest city on the Coast, the port, the Seabee base, the airport and the widest range of price points.
- Biloxi and D'Iberville: Keesler AFB, the casinos, Back Bay waterfront and most of the Coast's newer construction.
